Tsering Jorden (14 year old boy), Class 5
Tsering Jorden is from a Namo Buddha a small village that lies in the hills outside the Kathmandu valley. Our founder, Thrangu Rinpoche, has built a monastery, public (free) hospital and SMD Branch school just above the village.
There are seven members in Tsering Jorden's family: three elder sisters, one younger brother , his parents and himself. Like most Namo Buddha villagers, his family is dirt poor, most are scratching out a living as subsistence farmers, but Tsering's father got work at Namo Buddha monastery as a labourer, while his does the farming.
Tsering Jorden joined SMD school at the age of five. His dad learned about SMD school through his work at Thrangu Rinpoche's monastery. Our monks at Namo Buddha often look after the villagers' kids this way...getting them into the main school.
Tsering is very happy to get this opportunity to study. His aim is to become a doctor and help beings as much as much as he can. His younger brother also studies in SMD school.
