Tenzin Dedon (4 year old girl), Nursery
Tenzin is from Pokhara, which lies in the western part of the Kathmandu valley. Her family lives in a very poor condition, financially because both of her parents are unemployed forcing the whole family to live from hand to mouth. There are six members in the family for Tenzin's parents to look after.
They also have to look after Tenzin's elderly grandparents, who also live with them. Tenzin's parents couldn't afford to send her to school (even government schools cost money in Nepal). Before Tenzin got admitted into SMD School, she was studying in a government school for some time. The education she got from the government school was inadequate. The teachers in a government schools in Nepal come only 2 days a week to teach. There are no proper textbooks, note books or pens and pencils. Most of the classrooms are badly furnished with no tables, benches or blackboards and class size hovers between 60 and 90 students.
