Tashi Namgyal was born in a small village called Les Hing in 1994. Les Hing is in Sindupalchowk District which lies to the north of kathmandu. Tashi Namgyal has only one sister. Their parents divorced when Tashi Namgyal was only two. He stayed with his father.
Their village is very remote and completely undeveloped. Most of the villagers are uneducated and illiterate. There is no infrastructure... roads, airstrips, running water, or electricity. People live a hard scrabble hand to mouth life.
Tashi Namgyal's uncle is a monk in Thrangu Monastery. He helped Tashi Namgyal to get into SMD school when Tashi was eight years old, but Tashi had studied in a primary school in his village before he joined us. In that school, the education system wasn't good as there was only one teacher who taught everything. He says, "I feel very lucky to get into SMD school. I am now in grade eight."
