There's a strong desire to be useful and help others." --- I just helped pull off Edmonton's 4th annual fundraiser for Child Haven International (children's homes in India, Nepal, Tibet & Bangladesh) this weekend. Our numbers were incredible - about 360 people plus 2 dozen children attended and we raised 21, 000. 50% more people and 50% more money than last year. Hopefully indeed it is that kind of global response to people in need that you are seeing and not a response to another global catastrophe.M.

HI - As I said in the All Signs this week, at the time of the Tsunami, I did not see a catastrophe per se in the stars. What I did see was an outpouring of sympathy and concern for the underprivileged or those who are suffering and in need. And this, sadly was the case.
With the current planetary transits in mind (for sympathy) last night I scanned the new and did not see anything untoward. (Of course there is always bad news.) However, as I read the New York Times 2 things hit me: -

Many people (even the organizers of these events) were surprised at how many people throughout the US have shown up to march in protest of the pending new legislation against unlawful immigrants. I think half a million marched in LA, and of course, thousands in other cities as well. This surprised people. But this is an outpouring of sympathy and concern for the downtrodden as it were...

The other thing (just in my own world): I read a new item (actually a slide/video show on the NYT) about a Pakistani woman who was tortured and forced into a brothel and she escaped but now the courts might send her back! I was so taken with her plight I wrote the NYT urging them to follow this story and help this woman. Now I don't normally do that - and I read bad news in the NYT every day...
so - to answer your question -
Those are the only 2 examples (in my own observation) of a sympathetic reaction to things. Of course others will have this sympathetic reaction to personal matters within their own families or within the context of their own lives.
So the catastrophe can be global or it can be millions of individual responses to their own private worlds...
